Basil is a very good source of vitamin A through its concentration of carotenoids such as beta-carotene, which is converted into pro-vitamin A. #HealthyDoc

The powerful antioxidant activity of basil also helps protect the blood vessel walls. Not only does that protect the epithelial cells (forming the lining of numerous body structures, blood vessels included) from free radical damage, it also helps prevent free radicals from oxidizing cholesterol in the bloodstream. (Only after it has been oxidized does cholesterol build up in the blood vessel walls, initiating the development of atheroscierosis). Basil is also good source of magnesium which prompts muscles and blood vessels to relax, improving blood flow and lessening the risk of irregular heart or blood vessel rhythms.
